For the 2024 model year, the Nissan Pathfinder and the Chevrolet Traverse are among the top family haulers on the market. Both models have seating for up to eight in cavernous cabins with tons of space, a list of safety and driver assistance features a mile long, and nearly as much connectivity tech. Their stylish appeal and light off-roading abilities make them great for weekend adventurers and city-dwellers alike, but which one will give you the specs and features you’re looking for in your next family vehicle? Keep reading for a full comparison of the 2024 Pathfinder and Traverse, and if the Pathfinder is the model that wins you over – and we think it will – visit us at Gettel Nissan to get behind the wheel of one today.
Inside, both models feature a spacious cabin with up to eight passengers in three rows. They have enough head and legroom in the first two rows for adults to feel comfortable on long drives, while the third-row seats are best suited for younger children. Critics note that the Pathfinder’s base model has plush, soft-touch materials. The Traverse has great fit and finish but the base model uses hard plastics and the rear seats are not as well-cushioned as other models in the segment.
As far as child safety goes, the Nissan Pathfinder may be more accommodating with a total of three LATCH connectors (second-row outboard seats and third-row driver-side seat) versus only two in the Traverse. Universal tether anchors are standard in the Pathfinder’s second-row middle seat and two of the rear seats. All three of the Traverse’s third-row seats use tether anchors.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder regarding exterior design. Until this year these two models might have been hard to tell apart without the brand logo. However, the 2024 Traverse is a fully redesigned model, that diverges from its previous exterior in many ways. Whether or not that’s good is up to you to decide. The Nissan Pathfinder has a smaller front grille, larger LED headlights, and smoother side panels, while the Traverse has distinct, sharp contoured lines and an aggressively wide front grille.
As far as exterior features go, both models have standard heated outside mirrors, 18-inch wheels, roof rails, proximity keyless entry, and push-button start.
The 2024 Nissan Pathfinder has two engine options. The base engine is a 284-horsepower V6 and the Rock Creek trim has a 294-horsepower version of the same engine that cranks out 270 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are married to a slick-shifting nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard and four-wheel drive is available, making it a great option for off-roading and any situation where you need a bit more traction and control.
The Chevrolet Traverse has only one engine option which is a 328-horsepower 2.5-liter inline-four, The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on all trims except the Z71 which has standard all-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive is not available anywhere in the lineup.
The Pathfinder and the Travere have nearly identical lists of technology and connectivity features. They both have large touchscreen infotainment systems with snappy responses and standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility. The Pathfinder has an available 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster while the Traverse has a slightly smaller 11-inch gauge cluster. Other standard and available features that they share include:
As far as differences go the Pathfinder has four USB ports while the Traverse has six. While they share the same base audio system, the Pathfinder has an available 13-speaker Bose sound system and the Traverse’s upgraded audio system only sports 10 speakers.
Like in the tech and infotainment department, the Pathfinder and the Traverse have very similar lists of standard safety features which include:
